History of Asagaya

The Asagaya area was originally called "Shakadani" because it was located in a shallow valley of the Momoen River.

The station opened in 1922.

At that time, there was no station between Nakano and Ogikubo, and transportation was inconvenient for residents in the area, so there was a campaign to attract a station.

In addition, there is a history of many people flowing in from the downtown area in the wake of the Great Kanto Earthquake.

Currently, the area around the station is being developed little by little, but once you get a little further away from the station, you can still see the atmosphere of the Showa era in many places.
