History of Shimotakaido

During the Edo period, Shimotakaido was home to Takaido-juku, the first post town on the Koshu Highway.

The station opened in 1920.

After the Great Kanto Earthquake, many people moved to Shimotakaido, and the population of Shimotakaido increased rapidly.

Although many shops were forcibly evacuated during the war, the townscape gradually developed after the post-war chaos subsided.

In recent years, the number of chain restaurants has increased while retaining the old town feel, and the area has evolved into a more livable area.
