History of Sakurashinmachi

Sakurashinmachi was originally developed as Japan's first residential subdivision in 1919.

When it was developed as a residential subdivision, over 1,000 cherry trees were planted as a commemoration, hence the name "Sakura Shinmachi."

After the war, the original author of Zazae-san, Machiko Hasegawa, moved to Sakurashinmachi and depicted the town and people at that time in her work.

Today, it is known as the place associated with Sazae-san, and there are bronze statues of Sazae-san installed throughout the town.
